{"id":133,"date":"2010-07-09T23:03:32","date_gmt":"2010-07-10T03:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marksisco.com\/blog\/?p=133"},"modified":"2010-07-16T00:30:44","modified_gmt":"2010-07-16T04:30:44","slug":"hes-my-brother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marksisco.com\/?p=133","title":{"rendered":"He&#8217;s My Brother"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the COOLEST things about this trip was having my brother Larry there, along with his wife Judy.<\/p>\n<p>Back story:\u00a0 Larry is 11 1\/2 years older than me.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an understatement to say that I really looked up to him and our brother Mike (12 1\/2 years my senior) when I was a kid.\u00a0 Larry was out of the Navy and in college studying art and photography when I entered high school.\u00a0 He introduced me to photography.\u00a0 He amazed me with his creative eye and the beautiful images he produce with film.\u00a0 His small black and white &#8220;lab&#8221; in the shed behind his house seemed like a magical place to me.\u00a0 He showed me enough of the basics for me to want my own camera.<\/p>\n<p>So off I went, buying a 35mm Pentax with one 50mm lens, dabbling through high school and college.\u00a0 Around the same time, Larry went to work for a studio in Nashville, but left photography to pursue a different career.\u00a0 I pretty much dropped photography in 1984 after my college yearbook days.\u00a0 My photography interests were rekindled in 1998, and I&#8217;ve truly been immersed in it ever since.\u00a0 Larry recently renewed his interest in photography after being on hiatus since the mid-80&#8217;s, except an occasional point and shoot moment.<\/p>\n<p>So, this trip was Larry&#8217;s first real dive back into using a &#8220;real camera&#8221; &#8230; only, there&#8217;s no film in it!\u00a0 Learning digital was new and exciting for him, if not initially intimidating.<\/p>\n<p>I think most of us dream of the day that we become good enough at a craft that our mentor or teacher is proud of us, and from whom we&#8217;ve earned respect.\u00a0 Well, that was the feeling I had with Larry participating in our workshop.\u00a0 To think that I could actually help teach him something about photography, which he introduced me to and had such a mastery of years ago, was both an honor and a blessing!\u00a0 I still have a long way to go to reach my photographic aspirations, but this was a proud and pivotal moment in many respects.\u00a0 Among other things, it helped me stop and realize a) how thankful I was that Larry took the time years ago to share something he loved with me, and b) the progress I&#8217;ve made after all the time, effort, and passion I&#8217;ve devoted.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_134\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-134\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-134\" title=\"Larry and Mark\" src=\"http:\/\/marksisco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/C7O2529-400x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marksisco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/C7O2529-400x600.jpg 400w, https:\/\/marksisco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/C7O2529-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/marksisco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/C7O2529.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Larry and Mark - Hoo Doos Trail<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the COOLEST things about this trip was having my brother Larry there, along with his wife Judy.
