{"id":154,"date":"2010-07-14T22:15:31","date_gmt":"2010-07-15T02:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marksisco.com\/blog\/?p=154"},"modified":"2010-07-14T22:15:31","modified_gmt":"2010-07-15T02:15:31","slug":"summer-at-the-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marksisco.com\/?p=154","title":{"rendered":"Summer at the Pool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This isn&#8217;t the most artistic image in the world, but it&#8217;s one worth sharing.\u00a0 This is Grand Prismatic Spring, and it far exceeded my expectations.\u00a0 I had seen pictures in books, etc., but had no clue how massive and beautiful it would be in real life.<\/p>\n<p>Yellowstone is full of geothermal features.\u00a0 Much of it sits on an active volcanic caldera, sometimes referred to as the &#8220;Yellowstone Supervolcano.&#8221;\u00a0 Rising steam and hot pools are apparent throughout the park, but on the west side in particular.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Prismatic blows most all the others away in terms of scale and beauty.\u00a0 The first recorded reference to this spring is from 1839.\u00a0 It spans 300 feet in diameter.\u00a0 The scale and size are apparent if you look closely at the boardwalk with people just behind it.\u00a0 The vivid colors in the spring are the result of pigmented bacteria in the microbial mats that grow around the edges of the mineral-rich water.\u00a0 The spring discharges an estimated 560\u00a0US\u00a0gallons of 160\u00a0\u00b0F  water per minute.<\/p>\n<p>This web-sized image certainly does not do it justice.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_155\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-155\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-155\" title=\"Grand Prismatic Spring\" src=\"http:\/\/marksisco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Pano_YNP319-321-700x189.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marksisco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Pano_YNP319-321-700x189.jpg 700w, https:\/\/marksisco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Pano_YNP319-321.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-155\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grand Prismatic Spring<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This isn&#8217;t the most artistic image in the world, but it&#8217;s one worth sharing.\u00a0 This is Grand Prismatic Spring, and it far exceeded my expectations.\u00a0 I had seen pictures in books, etc., but had no clue how massive and beautiful it would be in real life.
