COEXIST

Project 365- Day 22

Many of us have seen the bumper sticker “COEXIST“.  I saw one today, and for the first time I looked closely at the letters and observed each symbol representing many facets of society and culture.  From their website:  “Coexist was created to address the crisis of understanding that tears at the social fabric of societies around the world. Globalization has outpaced our understanding of one another, creating divisions that plague communities with prejudice, hate and violence.

Later today, I hiked on one of my favorite neighborhood trails.  I’ve always been intrigued by these power line structures which transect the trail and wooded areas of our local park.  Revisiting them on my walk triggered a reminder of the term “coexist” again.  This time, I thought about how our man made structures and inventions coexist with nature.  The term means “to exist separately or independently but peaceably,” which characterizes my thoughts perfectly.  Man-made against a background of nature-made, existing peaceably.  There’s room for both, though we often hear polarizing debates to the contrary.  After all, each are ultimately the result of God’s gift and handiwork.
