Project 365 – Day 42

My employer, NCR, has a rich 130 year heritage of innovation, not the least of which was the cash register.  It was the origin of the company in 1884, founded by John H. Patterson.  Patterson marketed to consumers, suggesting they demand a receipt.  This, in turn, created demand and an expectation for merchants have this new technology in order to get the math right and provide an “automated” receipt with proof of sale.

Old brass cash registers, like this one from our office, are true works of art.

That is SO cool…I actually remember walking into a Woolworth with my grandmother and seeing the old crank-style registers. Boy, those were the days!! 🙂

As an engineer I love looking at and imaging the manufacturing of precision machines. Given the opportunity to time travel I will pick going back.
