The Little Kitchen That Could
I shared a photo and post in November, 2017 about a beautiful experience Kathy and I literally stumbled into. You can read the original post here.
Fast forward a year and 3 months … I received a note (posted below) from Tom Hare, the passionate owner and artist of this fantastic work-of-art cabin. His note completely made my day, and it reminded me how seemingly small things can have lasting impressions.
BTW – Tom rents cabins and gives tours!

Tom’s Note:
Dear Mark,
I hope things are going good for you, as things are going good for me. Thanks for giving me a new direction to travel in my life. That photo you took of my kitchen changed everything for me.
- Building a blacksmith shop
- Building an outhouse with a flush toilet
- Getting the spring house working again
- Signage for the nature trail
- Getting the saw mill working again
- Refurbishing my gasoline powered Maytag washing machine (It washes clothes, makes butter and ice cream, and grinds meat! This runs on 1920s technology, and I can’t even get a cell phone to work here)
- Building a summer kitchen
- Starting a farm garden like old farmsteads used to have
- Registering both farms as film locations.

Great to see this again….such a telling story on the impacts we leave on this planet, even though we may not realize it. It’s the little things we do for people that have the greatest affect!!
What a wonderful confirmation of how we can impact one another. Each person we come in contact with gives and receives. I am grateful and blessed you, Kathy, and your family have touched my life.
Thank you, sir! Indeed, we underestimate the impressions we can make. And ditto to you and Betsy … so blessed to have you as friends (though many, many miles away now)!
